About the Instructor
Lisa C. Alvarez is a wildlife conservation photographer, writer, and lawyer who educates nature photographers on how to protect their creative work. Her mission is to create clarity on complex legal topics such as U.S. copyrights and constitutional issues, which are critical to a nature photographer’s ability to both foster change and make a living from their images.
Lisa is licensed to practice law in California. She earned a B.A. degree in Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1986, and a J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1993. In addition, she lived in Madrid, Spain for four years with her husband and son, where she learned to speak Spanish and took her first photography lessons.
After returning to the states with her family, Lisa photographed events in the community for the school foundation and a small local magazine. She discovered a love of nature photography, however, when she found a hummingbird’s nest with two nestlings in her suburban backyard and documented their growth for a month. That experience sparked a passion for wildlife conservation in her, and she hasn’t looked back since.
When not writing about the latest legal trends impacting photographers or photographing wildlife conservation stories, you’ll find Lisa spending time with her husband and son, walking her two dogs, and knitting while binging on Netflix.
